Traditional Appalachian Noise Maker

This is a traditional toy found in many cultures. It makes a great gift and is a lot of fun. Grab the handle and spin, it will make a sound like a very loud cricket.

This makes the perfect toy to take to the game or other event. Your child will know when you are rooting for them. Ring in the New Year or liven up a birthday party with it!

These are also used in Judaism. They are called a gragger (or noisemaker) and it is used for the holiday of Purim . The gragger is used every time Haman’s name is mentioned during the reading of the Megillah Esther( the book of Esther in the bible) to ward off evil.

Versions of this style noise maker were also used during the civil war to call the troops. Can’t you just picture a man walking through the tents in the morning getting the men out of bed with one of these?
